Isn’t Socialism Great?

Now I’m starting to get scared.  Mr. Obama has been talking about some people making too much money - and we all know about his commitment to spreading it around!

The reason for my new-found fear is that it just dawned on me that for the past several years I have been earning more money than Chrysler Corporation; even more than General Motors.  In fact, I’ve been earning more than Chrysler and General Motors combined, for crying out loud!

Well, it could be different this year what with the government taking some of my money and spreading it around to GM.  Hey, if you don’t count their $billions in debt, or their (almost) unlimited stash of taxpayer money they can tap whenever they want, they are looking almost profitable!  Now if they could just sell some cars.

I was hesitant at first to make this post public for fear of Mr. Obama finding out just how much I really make compared [...] Continue Reading…

Who Or What is Obese?

We hear that Mrs. Obama has plans for the government to intervene and end child obesity in a generation.  You can read all about the “Let’s Move” plan here

The summary here presents “70 specific recommendations that can be implemented right away.”  Among them:

Hospitals and health care providers should use maternity care practices that empower new mothers to breastfeed, such as the Baby-Friendly hospital standards.  Are there really hospitals in American which don’t encourage breastfeeding?  Do mothers really need to be “empowered by the federal government” to breastfeed?

Local health departments and community-based organizations, working with health care providers, insurance companies, and others should develop peer support programs that empower pregnant women and mothers to get the help and support they need from other mothers who have breastfed.  Do you want to pay the taxes necessary for the government to oversee the creation of ‘community-based organizations’ as they create peer support programs and recruiting [...] Continue Reading…

Federal employees are paid outrageous salaries and benefits.  A recent analysis by USA Today shows that, on average, federal employees are paid 11% more to do the same job than a private employee is paid ($67,691 contrasted with $60,046 for the year 2008).

In addition, they receive 300% higher benefits package on top of the salary – $40,785 for the average federal worker, $9,882 for the average private worker.  Together, the average federal worker costs us $108,476 a year, and the average private worker doing the same job costs us $69,928.  That is, a federal worker costs us 160% the cost of a private worker doing the same job.  To contrast federal vs. private pay for the exact same jobs, check here.

All this makes me wonder why our government overlords think attorneys working at the Securities and Exchange Commission are smart enough to be worth more than $250,000 a year to insure that publicaly [...] Continue Reading…

Democrat Party Seeks to Overturn Constitution to Save Earth
comment 2 Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 24, 2010 – 10:55 am

Many of the environmentalists of our time espouse the idea of anthropogenic global warming – AGW – as it is referred to in the press.

Throughout its history, the earth has warmed and cooled radically.  We see fossils of tropical plants in both the very northern parts of the planet, and in Antarctica.  We see evidence of deep glaciers throughout the United States.  Neither of these extremes were caused by humans, our cars, our coal-fired plants, or anything else humans do to enable our species to thrive and prosper.

Radicals, who want to control the activities of all other humans, then, must come up with explanations as to why we should follow their advice.  First it was the communists who explained history in terms of economic destiny – kind of like astrology.  Our behavior must adapt to an unavoidable economic imperative, an unalterable destiny that Karl Marx announced he had discovered.

 Marx [...] Continue Reading…

Barack and Ed’s Big Adventure
comment Comment Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 22, 2010 – 8:02 pm

It’s more than I can stand.  Ed Whitacre Jr., President of General Motors is on TV crowing about having fully paid their government loan 5 years ahead of schedule, and that’s why you should do business with GM.

First, GM got $52 billion from the U.S. government and $9.5 Billion from the Canadian government and Ontario for a total of $61.5 billion.  Of this, this, the U.S. government considered $6.7 billion a loan, and $1.4 billion of Canada’s involvement they consider to be a loan.

So here’s the deal, GM runs itself into the ground, builds crappy cars, ignores the impact of imported cars beginning in the late 1960’s, betrays its customers (think gas engines converted to diesel in the 1980’s) gives away the store to the United Autoworkers Union, promises healthcare for life, ad infinitum; then when everything crumbles down around them, they cry like a baby to “borrow” your [...] Continue Reading…

Earth Day Is All About Human Arrogance
comment Comment Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 22, 2010 – 3:02 pm

Today is earth day.  Some capitalize the words, but I don’t.  I do capitalize the word Earth because it is a proper noun, but earth day is not a noun; it is a pagan holiday.

It occurred to me today as I was thinking about the so-called ‘green movement’ what an arrogant bunch they are.  Their hubris knows no bounds.  First, they presume that the rest of us are so ignorant that we actually think they are engaged in environmental causes.  We know this isn’t true because they have no interest in truth.

They make up the loss of species out of whole cloth; they never applaud the hundreds of new species discovered each year.   They lie about Polar Bear population; and Arctic and Antarctic Ice.  They lie about the so-called ozone hole, rising sea levels, glaciers around the world, and the contribution humanity has made to the preservation of species [...] Continue Reading…

Democrat Defense of the Indefensible
comment Comment Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 20, 2010 – 6:26 pm

After agreeing to ignore the principle of government by consent of the governed and imposing the very unpopular healthcare takeover, the Democrat party is seeking to divert the anger of American citizens by first presenting themselves as victims.

They have only acted in the public interest, don’t you know.  They have only been trying to clean up George Bush’s failures, his mess; and they have no interest in listening to people who made the mess, Mr. Obama says. In fact Bush’s mess is so big it explains every failure of all future Democrat presidents! They are only interested in lowering the debt, they announce; just trying to save small businesses, working people, the republic; and it’s all for the children.  If people only understood, they wouldn’t complain – they would thank me. Poor unwashed throng – they are just incapable of understanding my depth of thinking.  Heh.

What do these compassionate overseers get for their [...] Continue Reading…

Harrassing our People and Eating Out Our Substance
comment 2 Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 6, 2010 – 5:25 pm

Our Declaration of Independence is a written document declaring in a bill of particulars why the Colonies were prepared to announce their separation from the political and governmental influence of King George III.  It is not my opinion that we are in the same condition the colonists were under the arbitrary thumb of the King, but I am struck by one of the particulars the colonists mentioned in the Declaration.

Among the charges they made against King George was, “He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people and eat out their substance.”  It was impossible for me not to think of this in light of the more than 100 new boards and commissions created in the Democrat health care legislation including enough money for the Internal Revenue Service to hire up to 16,000 new “Officers to harrass our people and [...] Continue Reading…

Who Would Overthrow our Government?
comment 3 Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 6, 2010 – 5:08 pm

I find it ironic that the the people are so concerned about this group in northern Michigan, and some surrounding states bent on overthrowing the American government.  Not that they shouldn’t be concerned about it; not that they shouldn’t arrest the suckers and prosecute them.

But what I find ironic is that very famous, very public people are also trying to overthrow our government but nobody says anything about it.  What’s the big surprise?

Consider the move by Franklin Roosevelt, the mama’s boy who had to be constrained by the U.S. Supreme Court in his attempt to overthrow the U.S. government.

This may come as a surprise to you, but it was the Supreme Court which stated that the Roosevelt regime was attempting to take over the constitutional authority of the Congress.  This was only a very public attempt to overthrow the government of the United States.

The court further said that even if the [...] Continue Reading…

What do Progressives Believe?
comment Comment Written by Lew Davies on 1, April 5, 2010 – 12:23 pm

I think you will enjoy this list of breathtaking beliefs held by progressives.

Most of them are of the “I think we should defy gravity in America; and I insist we rely on the settled science of physics to do it” variety.

If you need a laugh, and I suspect you do, please check out the link and see how the progressivel brain works.  Well, perhaps “works” is too strong of a word; just sayin’.
